John, that is a sad tally but the Iraqi figure is much higher than the iraq body count figure. They count deaths from monitoring the media and count each death that is reported in two western news sources. The western media is mainly confined to a style of hotel journalism, being unable to travel the country because of the very real danger of abduction and death. They simply do not give an accurate picture of Iraq.
The most reliable estimate of Iraqi deaths, caused by the war is 655,000 it could be as high as a million. The figure was worked out by a team of epidemiologists from the John Hopkins university and the study was peer reviewed and published in British medical journal The Lancet. It has come under fire for obvious reasons, it exposes the true horror, but the authors have given a strong rebuttal – see BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/6099020.stm
Hope all is well with you.
J
